The Studer Family Children's Hospital team is dedicated to enhancing the patient experience for children and families undergoing treatment in the oncology ward. To achieve this goal, the team is focusing on three key spaces: the playroom/lounge room, patient rooms, and the movie room.

To bring this vision to life, the team is proposing a unique "Submarine Experience" as the overarching theme for the new oncology ward. This theme is inspired by the excitement and wonder of exploring the ocean, and is designed to spark the imagination and bring joy to children during their hospital stay. The mere exposure to the underwater world of a submarine can also help to reduce stress and anxiety for both children and families.

The design of the oncology ward is carefully crafted to create a seamless transition from one space to another, incorporating physical and digital elements that bring the submarine experience to life. The playroom/lounge room is designed as a whimsical underwater world, complete with interactive elements that encourage exploration and play. The patient rooms are designed to evoke a sense of peace and calm, with tranquil colors and soothing oceanic imagery. The movie room is designed to immerse patients in a magical underwater world, complete with dynamic lighting and sound effects that enhance the submarine experience.

The Studer Family Children's Hospital team is committed to delivering a comprehensive and effective design solution that best reflects the vision and mission of the hospital. By incorporating a "Submarine Experience" theme into the oncology ward, the team hopes to create a flexible, colorful, and calming environment for the very sick children and the anxious, stressed-out parents going through a difficult time. This unique and imaginative approach to hospital design has the potential to make a lasting impact on the patient experience, and help children and families on their journey to healing.
