HCA Healing Garden/ 2021
This project developed an outdoor healing garden and play space for Studer Family Children's Hospital, designed as a restorative environment for patients, families, and clinical staff. The goal was to create a therapeutic alternative to interior clinical spaces where people could reset, connect, and recover through contact with nature.
Inspired by Savannah's landscape character, the design integrated greenery, water elements, and playful structures to support both quiet restoration and active engagement. The approach emphasized simplicity and legibility so the space could feel welcoming for children while also providing calm and relief for caregivers and staff.
The result was an outdoor environment that extended the hospital's healing framework beyond the building envelope and supported emotional wellbeing across different user groups. By combining nature-based cues with child-centered play, the space functioned as both a respite setting and a meaningful part of the care experience.
