SFCH Observation Unit/ 2022

This project supported the update of the observation unit at Ascension Sacred Heart Pensacola, with the goal of improving patient experience while easing pressure on emergency care flow. The design challenge was to create a more supportive short-stay environment that remained operationally clear for staff and families.

The concept used an aviation narrative rooted in local context, drawing from the Blue Angels and the landscape of Pensacola Bay. Environmental graphics, digital installations, and in-room media were coordinated as one experience system, including beach murals, animated aircraft moments, and lighting cues that referenced natural daylight progression.

The result was a more engaging and calming observation environment that made waiting and recovery periods feel less clinical and more humane. By combining place-based storytelling with functional spatial communication, the unit improved emotional comfort without sacrificing clarity of care.
